Is my business ready for AEO ?

Published

QUICK ANSWER

There is no single test that determines whether a business is “ready” for AEO. A practical foundation is to control your core public business information, make the content you want systems to use accessible, and know which real customer questions you need to answer. If one of those pieces is missing, fix the blocker first rather than waiting for everything to become perfect.

1. Do you have a public foundation that you can actually control?

A website is not the only public source of information about a business.

Other sources include:

  • Google Business Profile,
  • professional directories,
  • public professional profiles,
  • third-party platforms,
  • publications and other public sources.

Your own website, however, is usually the source you can control most directly and organize most precisely.

There you can explain precisely:

  • what the business offers,
  • who it is for,
  • where it is located or which areas it serves,
  • how someone can get in touch,
  • which basic questions are answered publicly,
  • which pieces of information need updating.

If you don't have a website, that doesn't mean the business is "invisible" in search or in AI systems. It does mean, however, that you have less control over a basic public source that you can fix and develop yourself.

If you already have a website, the practical question is simple: can you change titles, texts, pages, contact details, and technical settings when needed?

If not, that is one of the first obstacles that needs to be solved.

2. Can the important pages be accessed and processed correctly?

The technical foundation comes before any discussion about optimization for AI-assisted search.

Check whether:

  • important pages are allowed to be crawled by the search engines where you want them to appear,
  • they can be indexed by Google or other search engines when indexing is required for that search experience,
  • the core content is available as text rather than only inside images,
  • the pages are linked together logically,
  • robots.txt, CDN rules, or other access controls are not accidentally blocking crawlers you intend to allow.

Not every AI system works in the same way. Google’s AI search features rely on the technical requirements of Google Search, while other services may use different crawlers and access mechanisms.

Structured data — the technical markup that describes page content — can be used where appropriate, provided it matches real, visible content. However, there is no special schema.org markup required for Google’s AI features or any markup that guarantees inclusion in AI-generated answers.

If you want more technical detail, see the schema markup guide.

3. Is your public information correct and consistent?

One of the clearest signs of readiness is that people can find the same core business information without major contradictions.

For example:

  • correct business name,
  • location or service area,
  • contact details,
  • opening hours where they exist,
  • basic services or categories,
  • a link to the official website.

For a local business, Google Business Profile is an important part of this picture. The information that appears publicly about a business may come from the profile itself, from the official website, from third-party sources, and from user contributions.

The goal, then, is not to "tweak a profile so AI notices you." It is to reduce the contradictions between public sources and to keep the details you control correct and up to date.

For businesses where local search is not a core scenario, Google Business Profile may not be relevant. The principle, however, remains the same: basic public information must be verifiable.

4. Do you know which real questions you need to answer?

You don't need to already have a large volume of content.

You need enough knowledge of your business and your customers to know what they ask before they buy, before they book an appointment, or before they get in touch.

For example, someone might ask:

"I have a small business and I'm looking for an accountant near me. Which firms state that they serve small businesses, and what information can I see before I get in touch?"

For a question like this, an AI system that uses public sources can find information from the website, from Google Business Profile where it exists, from public professional profiles, or from other published content.

Such a system may surface, summarize, or combine information from those sources, such as location, contact details, or publicly stated services.

That does not mean every conclusion in an answer is fully supported. Claims about availability, serving a specific type of customer, or being the “best choice” need clear, current support from the available sources.

If you already know which questions come up repeatedly in sales, on the phone, in messages, or in the store, you have enough raw material to organize the content.

The what AEO is explains why these real needs are more important than simply writing more articles.

When does the foundation need work first?

You don't have to postpone every action until everything is perfect.

There are, however, cases where the priority is clear.

For example, when:

  • you don't have your own website and you want more control over public information,
  • the existing website cannot practically be updated,
  • important pages are technically blocked,
  • the basic information differs significantly from source to source,
  • there is no clear description of the services or products,
  • you haven't yet recorded which questions customers actually ask.

In these cases, the first phase of work around AEO is organizing this foundation.

If the problem lies in the website itself, you can see what the web design foundation includes.

So, are you ready?

You can run a quick check:

  1. Do I have at least one basic public source that I can control and update?
  2. Can the important pages be found and processed correctly?
  3. Is the basic public information correct and consistent?
  4. Do I know which real customer questions I need to answer?

If most of these are true, there is enough foundation to start the work in an organized way.

If not, the check has already shown where work needs to be done first.

If you want us to look at your own case, we start from these four points and from the public information that exists today.

Work around AEO can help make a business's public information more complete, accurate, and consistent.

It does not guarantee appearance, mention, citation, recommendation, or a specific position in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, or any other system.
